Yimin & Diana Xu Treat Iowa Patients with Traditional Chinese Medicine

Yimin and Diana Xu, a married couple from Clive, moved to Iowa five years ago from Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they taught acupuncture at Southwest Acupuncture College for about seven years. The Xus are two of the total of seven practicing acupuncturists in Iowa. Their clinic, Family Acupuncture, is located at 8711 Windsor Parkway in Johnston. The Xus treat patients who suffer from arthritis, headache, backache, stress and other ailments.

Richard Range, a resident in West Des Moines, who is suffering from stiffness in the back, has been receiving treatment from Yimin.

"It's been a good experience," He said.

Range thought about going for acupuncture treatment after seeing a veterinarian do it on his dog.

"I thought if he could do it, I could do it too," Range said.

Yimin said that almost all of his patients are Caucasians, who came to him through referrals by those who have benefited from his treatment.

"They all had some basic knowledge of acupuncture and were not scared, " Yimin said in an interview in his clinic.

The Xus acquired their skills from the Chinese Medicine Academy in China's Zhejiang Province. They have two sons, 17-year-old Patrick and 9-year-old Daniel.
